 Good alarm/steering wheel lock May 29, 2010

I find this item to be strong, and judging from a similar steering wheel lock I had before this one, effective. (Someone broke into my truck, had time to open the glove box before the alarm went off but NOTHING WAS TOUCHED INSIDE!) The alarm is vey loud, scary as hell, (voice of experience, as I accidently got in the truck without disarming this one... IT GIVES NO WARNING! The moment I sat in the driver's seat it went off, right in my face!) That is the only improvement I would suggest... maybe ten seconds or so of short beeps or chirps, to give you time to disarm it if you forget to before you get in the vehicle.

I purchased the Gorilla Grip III for my Jeep Wrangler. With the price I paid I did not think that it would be the ultimate security device, but as from past experience, perception and sending criminals to an easier target works most of the time. Installation is simple, yes the original battery should be replaced ( very simple to do ), and I found that locking the steering column by turning the steering wheel, then putting the device in place works pretty good. The remote works good ( 50 feet ), the alarm could be louder, but is pretty sensitive. The bar would make driving pretty hard, but possible ( if someone is stealing your car they won't be to concerned about leaving it undamaged ). The flashing red light is pretty visable at night. Put all these features together and it will probably stop
all but the most determined or professional criminals ( they also need to know how to start the car ). It would not stop someone from stealing your stereo or rims, but there are other devices available for those situations. I believe it met my expectations, and Amazon's price was $ 20 cheaper with free shipping, compared to where I buy most of my Jeep accessories.

The only bad part is the battery location which is to easy for someone to remove it even when locked in place but other then that i am sure a person would have a tough time getting it off the wheel with out a key, and it just looks so much better then the other alternative....

The battery provided is very bad, it discharged in three weeks, and the sound of the alarm are very quite, outside of the vehicle it can't heard.

I was loking for something to secure the Jeep Wrangler. The others just did not give me a good sense of security. I found this locally but the price was outrageous. Checked Amazon and found it at a great price. It took a bit to figure out the best way to use it, but with the steering wheel tilted down it fits perfectly and locks just right. Do replace the battery for the audible alarm because it is just a test and lasts for a day or two at best. Good pruduct and well built.
