5 out of 5 stars Works great!   July 22, 2010

I agree with the other Posts. the negative reviews are unfounded. I had almost no problems installing this system in my car. as long as you have a basic understanding of any 12V electrical system install is quick and easy. minus of-course removing panels from your car to hide it. I would definately buy from this seller again. my order came quickly and they responded promptly when i sent an email reguarding the status of my order.

1 out of 5 stars Worst Investment in my car   April 27, 2010

This keyless entry system was the worst investment I've ever put into my car. I honestly can't describe how disappointed I am in this unit. When I bought it I was so happy to not have to use my key anymore (I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX 4 Door Sedan) and that I had a remote to get into my car. I thought it was going to be just like the factory bought systems, can open my car from inside my house, or even from the office. Not the case. I literally have to be standing at least 10 feet from the car to get this to work. I think the longest I've stood away from the car was 30 feet and it JUST worked.

It also has some features to be well aware of. If your car is running and you open the trunk, MAKE SURE A DOOR IS OPEN OR A WINDOW IS OPEN, because once you close that trunk, the viper system will automatically lock all your doors and you'll have to call AAA to open the doors while the car is running.

I wish I could go into more about this but there really isn't much to stay...I'm just thoroughly disappointed in this unit and wish I could take it back and get a factory honda built unit, but they dont make them anymore, so I'm stuck with this piece of junk.

The only upside to this unit is that it was installed very easily by the people at Best Buy (The installer told me he's worked with Civics before and this installed very very easily). So I can't say anything for the instructions, but for the unit itself, this is complete crap.

4 out of 5 stars Works great, but difficult to install   April 16, 2010
    J. Wiegmann (Northern, VA United States)
I'm pretty technical and I have wired up remote entry in the past. But, cars are much more complex than they used to be. This was being installed in a Subaru and the documentation wasn't quite good enough to get me there. Even google couldn't find me all the correct wire locations to make the connections. I gave up and had it professionally installed. Ended up costing me the same as just going there and buying it in the first place with installation. Good product, that works well once installed. Hiqh quality remotes with about a 100 foot range. Nice.

1 out of 5 stars Viper products pro install only   January 25, 2010

Having purchased this product I found the Instructions to be very poor for the average home installer I have installed many alarms and key less door entry units and have done a great deal of electrical repairs on cars including complete wiring. DEI the corporate unit of Viper will not assist anyone but professional installers so don't waste time and money on their products unless you intend to have a installer install your unit. Don't waste your time calling the 1-800 number that is of no use for installs. I personally will not purchase any of their products

5 out of 5 stars Great price. Does everything I want it to!   January 14, 2010

I agree with the previous poster that the one-star reviews are unfounded. Anyone purchasing this product must know that they will end up soldering wires under their dash. How else would you expect this box to open your doors and blink your lights? Come on...

As for the product, it works exactly as described and as one would think it should. For $50, this is a bargain. It took me about 3 hours to get it all installed and a good deal of that was figuring out which wires did what in my car (a manual will bring this time way down). That said, the installation couldn't be easier once you know which wires you want: just strip off some insulation, solder the appropriate wire from the harness provided to the wire in your car, repeat as needed. Simple, simple.

Electrical circuits in cars are _very_ simple. For the most part, they're all just circuits that switch power - no signals to transmit or anything fancy. That said, if you don't know what a relay is or how one works, you should probably learn that before attempting to install this yourself. The product itself works great and the installation manual tells you everything they could be expected to tell you, given that they can't give installation instructions for every car on the road.
